BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan football team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoff with a 41-35 two-overtime win over Wabash on Saturday, Nov. 21 at IWU Stadium. Senior quarterback Kraig Ladd hit senior Jack Scalcucci with a 30 yard pass on 4th and 15 for the winning score.

The Titans will play at No. 2-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12 p.m. next Saturday, Nov. 28. The Warhawks (11-0) were 70-7 winners over Lakeland on Nov. 21.

The Titans opened the scoring with 14 seconds to play in the first quarter when Brien Rooney capped an eight play, 80 yard drive on a 6 yard run and Dennis Zic added the extra point kick to give the Titans a 7-0 advantage.

Wabash tied the score at 7-7 with 12:55 to play in the half when Matt Hudson hit Chad Sorenson on a 3 yard touchdown pass and Spencer Whitehead added the extra point kick.

IWU led 14-7 when Dayton Burnett caught a 5 yard pass from Ladd with 5:50 to go in the half and Zic booted the extra point, and IWU led 21-7 with 1:37 before halftime when Travis Brubaker ran in from two yards out to end a five play, 68 yard drive. Zic made the extra point kick.

Wabash marched 70 yards down the field in nine plays in just 1:17 to score with 16 seconds left in the half. Derrick Yoder ran in from a yard out and Whitehead made the extra point.

Wabash got withing one when Hudson ran in from three yards out with 3:25 to play in the third quarter but Whitehead's extra point kick was blocked to leave the score at Illinois Wesleyan 21, Wabash 20.

The Little Giants took a 28-21 lead with 13:31 to play in regulation when Yoder ran in from seven yards out and Hudson hit Kody LeMond with a pass for the two-point conversion. But IWU went 61 yards on 15 plays in 7:08 to score with 6:20 to play on a Ladd one yard run and a Zic extra point

In the overtime period, Brubaker scored on a one-yard run and Zic added the extra point kick in the Titans' first possession and Wabash scored in their first posession when Hudson ran in from a yard out and Whitehead tied the game at 35-35.
On the second posession in OT, Hudson was intercepted for the first time in the game by P.J. Cummings, giving the Titans back the ball. On a fourth down and 15, Ladd found Scalcucci for the winning score, 41-35.

IWU amassed 479 yards of total offense to 361 for the Little Giants. Ladd was 28 for 46 for 316 yards passing with two TDs. Eli Williams had 101 yards rushing on 14 carries and Scalcucci had nine catches for 116 yards.
Hudson completed 31 of 45 passes for 268 yards. The Little Giants were led in rushing by Tommy Mambourg with 41 yards on 14 carries.
Senior Roman Hunter paced the Titans with 10 total tackles while senior Nick Nikolich and junior Dan Rogers each had eight. IWu got a sack of -10 yards from Mike Ammirati.
Wabash's Addrian Frederick had nine tackles and an interception and CJ Gum also had nine total tackles while Jake Martin had eight.
