Florida without QB Brantley at Auburn
Roundup: BC to apply for two medical hardship waivers
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida will be without quarterback John Brantley at No. 24 Auburn on Saturday.
Coach Will Muschamp ruled Brantley out Monday, meaning the Gators will be without their starter for a second consecutive week.
Brantley missed last week's 41-11 loss at top-ranked LSU because of a badly sprained right ankle. Freshman Jacoby Brissett started in his place and completed 8 of 14 passes for 94 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions.
Muschamp says Brissett will practice as the starter this week, but fellow freshman Jeff Driskel could get back in the mix. Driskel, who earned the backup job during fall practice, missed the LSU game because of a sprained ankle. He has completed 44 percent of his passes for 73 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
BC seeking medical hardship waivers for two players
BOSTON -- Boston College plans to seek medical hardship waivers for career rushing leader Montel Harris and defensive tackle Kaleb Ramsey that would allow them to play next season.
Harris has been limited by a knee injury to just two games for the Eagles (1-5), running 31 times for 135 yards. He reinjured his left knee on against Wake Forest on Oct. 1, a game in which he set the record with 3,735 yards, 10 more than the mark set in 2003 by Derrick Knight. Ramsey, bothered by a foot injury, has played in one game with two assisted tackles.
Both are seniors.
Coach Frank Spaziani said doctors believe the injuries will sideline the players for the rest of the year. The NCAA can grant such waivers to players with season-ending injuries who have appeared in fewer than 30 percent of their team's games, with none after the midpoint of the season.
Florida State's Thompson, Datko out with injuries
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State has lost two of its starters, both possibly for the rest of the season.
Tailback Chris Thompson, who has been playing with a stress fracture in the back, suffered two broken vertebrae on his first carry in last Saturday's 35-30 loss at Wake Forest, and won't be back this year.
Offensive tackle Andrew Datko won't play this Saturday at Duke and coach Jimbo Fisher says that the four-year starter needs shoulder surgery and also possibly out for the remainder of the year.
Thompson led the Seminoles in rushing a year ago, but missed much of the August preseason practices with back issues and was never able to get untracked this fall.
Florida State (2-3) hopes to snap a three-game losing streak at Duke (3-2) Saturday.
