NEW ORLEANS — Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson will be released from Tulane Hospital Tuesday evening after struggling with symptoms of apparent heat exhaustion during practice earlier in the day.

University officials said in a statement Tuesday that Johnson “is in good condition and is expected to return to his coaching duties on Wednesday.”

The 50-year-old Johnson, a New Orleans-area native, is in his first season at Tulane after spending the past six years as wide receivers coach for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.

The Green Wave is coming off a 24-12 season-opening loss to Rutgers and plays again this Saturday at Tulsa.
