Mary Hardin-Baylor ranked second in first AFCA poll of 2012

BELTON, Texas – Mary Hardin-Baylor matched the highest ranking in program history as the Cru was ranked No. 2 in the first American Football Coaches Association’s (AFCA) Top 25 Poll of the season.

UMHB totaled 986 points in the AFCA poll and received a first place vote for the first time in its 15-year history.

Mount Union holds down the top spot with 39 first-place votes and 1,047 total points. The Cru is now 2-0 on the season following a 32-25 victory against Wesley on Saturday. Wesley is No. 7 in the poll following the loss to the Cru. St. Thomas (Minn.) is ranked third, Linfield is fourth and defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater is fifth. 

“We don’t really have any chance to celebrate our win or pay attention to those polls,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “If we don’t keep winning, the victory over Wesley doesn’t mean anything. We have to stay focused and get ready to play a very good, and probably pretty angry Trinity team this weekend.”
          
UMHB also moved up two spots to No. 2 in the nation in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. This is the first time UMHB has received a first place vote in the D3football.com poll and represents the program’s highest ranking since the Cru was ranked No. 2 nationally in the week five poll of the 2005 season. Mount Union is No. 1 with 623 points and 23 first place votes.
