BOSTON -- A live bald eagle will serve as a mascot for Boston College as the team plays its home football games this season.

School officials say the tradition of a live mascot has been on hiatus for 47 years, but they're bringing it back with the help of Zoo New England and World Bird Sanctuary.

Boston College will use social media to run a naming contest for the 9-year-old male bird, whose name will be revealed at a Sept. 28 home game.

School officials say fans will be able to see the mascot and take photos before games as part of education sessions that will be offered.
