NO. 9 WEST VIRGINIA 70, NO. 25 BAYLOR 63  BOXSCORE
In all honesty, take your pick for offensive player of the week from the Baylor-West Virginia shootout on Saturday. West Virginia's quarterback Geno Smith threw for 656 yards and eight touchdowns, but it was wide receiver Stedman Bailey who caught five of those scores in addition to his 303 yards receiving. Bailey had set the Big 12 record for receiving yards before Baylor WR Terrance Williams broke it just minutes later. Bailey and Tavon Austin -- part of what has become an explosion of outstanding tandem receivers -- became the first FBS teammates with 200 yards receiving since 2007. Bailey's  five receiving touchdowns also broke the school record.

Penn State linebacker Mike Mauti, one of the most vocal critics last summer of Illinois for its efforts to recruit Penn State players after the child-sex scandal and NCAA sanctions, intercepted Illini quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase twice. One of those ended in an unusual 99-yard return that did not end in a touchdown, as Mauti fell short of the goal line.

NO. 14 TEXAS 41, OKLAHOMA STATE 36  BOXSCORE
Going up against a team it has struggled with the last couple seasons, Texas needed a spark. The Longhorns got it right after Oklahoma State tied the game at 14-14 when, on the ensuing kickoff, D.J. Monroe returned it 100 yards for a touchdown. It was the third kickoff return for a touchdown in Monroe's career, after two during his freshman season in 2009.
