Minnesota State erased a three-stroke deficit to claim the 2010-11 NSIC Men’s Golf Championship. The Mavericks, who have now won the last three league championships, headed into the final round needing to make up some ground on tournament-leading St. Cloud State and they did that and more to win the tournament played at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn. As he has done all year, Minnesota State senior Kyle Bahe led the Mavericks.

The Annandale, Minn., native carded a 72 to complete the tournament with a total of 360.

The Mavericks shot a fifth-round low 292 to finish with a 90-hole total of 1,487. St. Cloud State tumbled to third place in the final standings with today’s round of 319 giving the Huskies a 1511 total. Wayne State combined to shoot 295 today and finished second at 1,508, 21 strokes behind the first-place Mavericks in the 10-team field.

The Mavericks receive an automatic bid to the NCAA West/Central Regional played May 2-4 at the Championships Course at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M. The NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championships follow May 16-20 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Florence, Ala.
