CNU notches USA South championship

Captains capture first championship in school history

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Christopher Newport upset second-ranked Methodist and fourth-ranked Greensboro to win the USA South Golf Championship. This is the first conference tournament win for the Captains in program history.

The Captains were led by Joseph Evans and Jon Howard who finished tied for fifth at three-over-par with Greensboro’s Connor Kennedy. Evans shot an impressive two-under-par 69 today to finish first in the second round which brought him up from sixteenth yesterday to a finish in the top five.

Brian Jaeger and Chris Olson finished tied for tenth with a six-over 148 for the two days of competition.

Joseph Suarez finished twentieth after shooting a thirteen-over 155.

For their efforts in the tournament Evans and Howard were named to the All-Tournament team. North Carolina Wesleyan’s Adam Coelho was the medalist after finishing even with a 142.
