AUSTIN, Texas – No. 5 Nova Southeastern completed its second spring tournament, taking the victory against 17 teams, shooting 19-over (290-298-295–883) at the St. Edwards Invitational.
The Sharks led the field throughout the entire tournament, posting the lowest single round team score of 290 in the first round of competition. NSU ended the first day after two rounds on top of the leaderboard at 12-over, only two strokes ahead of SSC rival Barry, who finished second overall. The Sharks maintained their consistent play through the third and final round to take a five-stroke victory against second-place Barry and the remaining field.
No. 2 Benjamin Taylor led the Sharks on the individual leaderboard, finishing second overall at 3-under (67-74-72—213). In the first round, Taylor posted the lowest round of the tournament shooting five-under with a 67. Taylor was unable to catch Daniel Stapff of Barry, who finished first at 9-under.
The Sharks also got consistent play out of No. 67 Oscar Lengdèn and No. 40 Ricardo Celia, who both captured top-10 finishes. Lengden, 3-over (74-73-72—219), started the final round in sixth place, but was able to jump ahead to fifth with an even performance. Celia, 4-over (71-74-75—220), fell only one spot from the first day to sixth, shooting 3-over in his final round.
Rounding out the scores for NSU were: Mitch Farrer, who finished T42 at 2-over0 (83-77-76—236); and teammate James Swan, shooting 24-over (78-79-83—240), which put him in in a three-way tie for 63rd.
