SOUTHPORT, N.C. — Bentley was strong during the first day of play at the St. James Plantation Invitational.
Dan McQueen shot a three-under 69 and Bentley sits in second place. The Falcons shot a 296, two back of California (Pa.).
McQueen, after posting a career-best score, will begin Sunday’s final round one stroke behind Paul Babashanian of California.
The 69 was the best by a Falcon golfer since Kurt Flionis carded a 67 in September 2002. McQueen was under par on both nines as he went out in a 34 and came back in a 35.
Following McQueen were Matt Michel and Richie Powers. Michel is tied for 11th with a 74 (35-39) and Powers is tied for 23rd (38-38-76).
Nick Clarke turned in a 77 (37-40) and Grant Alter completed the list of Falcon players, finishing with a 79 (41-38).
