Becker fires six-under 66 in final round, captures individual title

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Wichita State rallied from 16 strokes back entering the final round to win the Desert Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Palm Valley Golf Course.

Shocker junior Rafael Becker took home medalist honors, shooting a six-under-par 66 in the final round on Saturday. Becker’s three-day total of 202 (68-68-66) paced the tournament field.

Becker entered the final round in third place, four strokes off the lead, while the Shockers as a team entered the final round in third place.

Saturday’s win marked the second tournament victory of the week for the Shocker men. They won the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, Fla. on Tuesday. Becker led WSU with a second-place finish in that tournament.

Two other Shockers finished in the tournament’s top-10 individuals. Louis Cohen Boyer finished eighth (68-72-70=210) and Hunter Sparks finished tied for ninth (73-69-69=211).
