Tigers trail rival Alabama by 11 shots at SEC Championship
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Third-ranked Auburn is tied for second with Georgia after the SEC Championship second round shooting an even-par 280 for a 3-under total at the par 70, 6991-yard Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club on Saturday. The Tigers are 11 shots behind No. 2 Alabama.
Freshman Michael Johnson is tied for fourth at 3-under with a 68-69--137 and is three shots behind co-leaders Bobby Wyatt of Alabama and Rick Lamb of Tennessee.
Will McCurdy and Blayne Barber are tied for eighth at 1-under as Barber fired a team-low 2-under 68 and McCurdy a 71. Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 30th with a 3-over 71-72--143 while Niclas Carlsson is tied for 54th struggling with an 84 after an opening round even par 70.
"It was the second day in a row we played very well for the first 12 to 13 holes, and we did not finish well," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "We lost four shots on 16, 17 and 18. Hopefully, the weather is going to be bad on Sunday and with the bad weather, I hope that we can play well and make a move."
No. 23 Florida is in fourth at 1-over 561, four shots behind Auburn (280-557) and Georgia (284-557). Arkansas is in fifth at 280-566 followed by Ole Miss at 285-572, Vanderbilt and Tennessee at 575, South Carolina and Kentucky at 578, Mississippi State at 290-579 and No. 17 LSU at 284-580.
