TEXARKANA, Ark. — A season-best round of 68 (-4) from Greg Eason helped No. 20 Central Florida surge up the leaderboard on Monday at the Conference USA Championship. With one round left, the Knights have a 574 (-2) at the Texarkana Country Club, putting them three strokes behind first-place Memphis. The Knights’ 284 (-4) second round was three-strokes better than any other team’s second-round performance.
Eason’s strong play has vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard. He currently shares the lead with Houston’s Roman Robledo. A strong back nine of 33 (-3) that included four birdies was key to Eason’s solid performance.
Ricardo Gouveia’s 71 (-1) helped boost him from a tie for 10th into a tie for seventh heading to the final 18 holes. With a 72 (E), Kyle Wilshire has now posted the same score in four-consecutive rounds at the C-USA Championship. Wilshire is in sole possession of 10th place.
Showing improvement from Sunday’s opening round were Brad Schneider and Jose Joia. Schneider’s 73 (+1) moved him into the top 25, while a 74 (+2) marked a two-stroke improvement for Joia.
Last year, the Knights were in third place and trailed by five strokes heading into the final round before rallying to win. The squad is seeking its fourth-consecutive C-USA title.
