Carthage first in opening round

COAL VALLEY, Ill. — Carthage leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship after the first of four rounds. The first two rounds are being played on Friday-Saturday, April 27-28 at the Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Ill.  Carthage plays host to the final two rounds on Friday-Saturday, May 4-5 at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine, Wis.

The Red Men lead the eight-team championship with a 305 team score, one stroke ahead of defending-conference-champion Millikin at 306. Illinois Wesleyan is third at 038, followed by Wheaton (Ill.) fourth at 309, North Central fifth at 318, North Parksixth at 322, Elmhurst seventh at 336 and Augustana (Ill.) eighth with a 339 mark.

Millikin’s Wes Hillen leads the field with a two-under-par 69.  Carthage’s Donnie Langland is second at 74.  Anthony Burdi and Brad Hyland are tied for fifth place at 76 each. Ben Schroeder is tied for 16th place at 79, with both Riley Bauman (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) and Josh Kopka tied for 21st place with 80s.
