NORMAL, Ill. -- No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan came from fourth place to finish tied for first and win in a tiebreaker to claim the championship of the 26-team IWU Spring Invitational at Normal's Ironwood Golf Course on Saturday.

Battling windy conditions, the Titan's first team had a second-day score of 313 to finish at 611, tied with Wheaton (Ill.). The tiebreaker to determine first place was the score of the fifth man on each team in day two and IWU's Spencer Groessl's 80 was better than the 84 by Wheaton's Tyler Cuculi.

First day team leader No. 15 Wittenberg finished third by one stroke at 612, followed by Millikin at 613 and Carthage at 623. The IWU second team placed sixth with a team total of 624. No. 5 Nebraska Wesleyan came in tied for eighth.

IWU second team sophomore Austin Craig was the individual medalist with a two-day total of 149 (72-77) on the par 72, 7,016-yard course and two other Titans finished in the top 10 of individuals as Kenny Wienckowski (74-78) and Tony Albano (71-81) tied for sixth with totals of 152.
