WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Competing against seven Division I Top 25 teams, the DII No. 4 Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team finished the first day of the Amer Ari Invitational with a 7-over 295 on Thursday.

"I realize that this is a bigger event than we normally play in and my team has very little national experience like AJGA or USGA tournaments but we have to play better than we did [Thursday]," head coach Jason Owen said. "This is just the start to a very long spring season so I expect things to get better every time we tee it up."

Junior Robby Salomon leads the CSUMB team with an even-par 72 by balancing four bogeys with four birdies. He is tied for 66th.

Juniors Brandon Hortt and Matt Ogden each shot 1-over 73 and are in a 16-way tie for 76th place. Ogden carded three consecutive birdies on holes 2,3 and 4. Hortt played steady golf with 14 pars on the day.

Senior Dylan Jackson and sophomore Anton Rosen both turned in 5-over 77 and are tied for 113th.
