HOWEY-in-the-HILLS, Fla – The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire Blugolds recorded the lowest round of day two of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships to trim a 14 stroke Methodist University lead down to one. The Blugolds posted a second round team-total of 320 (+28) for a tournament total of 651 (+67), just one stroke off the pace set by the Monarchs who carded a day-two number of 333. In third place is Gustavus Adolphus who carded a 332 and remains 13 strokes off the lead.
Individually, Natalie Matuszak of Saint Mary’s College (Indiana) shot a day-two 79 to remain atop the leaderboard at +9 for the tournament, one stroke ahead of her Belles teammate Mary Kate Boyce and Alana Swain and Paige Caldwell of Methodist. Boyce posted the individual low round of the day by shooting a 4-over 77 that was matched by only Methodist’s Swain and Eau Claire’s Catherine Wagner.
The stellar round two move on Methodist by the Blugolds was aided by the Monarch’s Susan Martin, the two-time individual defending champion, being disqualified after erroneously turning in an incorrect scorecard. Martin called the costly penalty on herself and will have to settle for a chance to guide Methodist to their 13th consecutive team title over claiming an individual three-peat.
