Oral Roberts wins Islander Classic
Medalist Reeves leads four-stroke comeback in final round
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Backed by the play of individual medalist Crystal Reeves, Oral Roberts women’s golf team captured its first championship of the season by rallying for a four-stroke victory in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic on Tuesday at Corpus Christi Country Club.
Reeves captured her second career individual title by finishing the three-round tournament with a one-under par 71. Reeves completed tournament play at 218 (74-73-71) to win by two strokes.
The Golden Eagles, who entered Tuesday nine strokes back and in fourth place, shot a 292 in the third round to finish tournament play at 898 (312-294-292), four strokes better than North Texas (902). Lamar (903), UTSA (905), and Sam Houston State (913) and TAMU-Corpus Christi (913) made up the rest of the top five.
Amber Hensley joined Reeves in the top 10, finishing sixth after a final-round 73 left her at 224 (80-71-73) for the tournament.
Eve Santillan (80-72-76) and Alheli Moreno (78-78-72) tied for 15th at 228. Rachel Romack finished 78th at 264 (86-95-83).
