BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. — No. 6 North Carolina is in ninth place at the Bryan National Collegiate after carding a 13-over par 301. Jackie Chang led the Tar Heels by firing an even par 72. The event is being played at the Bryan Park Players Course.
Chang carded three birdies and three bogeys en route to her even par round and is tied for eighth place in the individual race. Katherine Perry is tied for 23rd after firing a two-over par 74 in a round that included one birdie, one bogey and one double-bogey. Casey Grice, carded a 5-over par 77 In the first round and is tied for 43rd.
Allie White carded a six-over par 78 and is tied for 52nd. Catherine O’Donnell rounded out the Tar Heels lineup with a 10-over-par 82 and is in 88th place. Courtney Gunter is competing as an individual and is tied for 52nd after shooting a 78.
Northwestern leads the field of 17 teams by firing a 2-over par 290. South Carolina is two shots back in second place at four-over par 292. No. 14 Tennessee is in third place at five-over par 293. Wake Forest is two shots behind the Volunteers in fourth place at seven-over par 295. No. 22 Ohio State and Florida State are tied in fifth place after finishing the first round at nine-over par 297.
Katie Burnett of South Carolina grabbed the individual lead, firing a two-under-par 70. Six players are tied for second at one-under par 71 — Tennessee’s Erica Popson, Northwestern’s Lauren Weaver, Ohio State’s Rachel Rohanna, Wake Forest’s Olafia Kristinsdottir, Duke’s Lindy Duncan, and Tulane’s Samantha Troyanovich. There are five players tied for eighth, including North Carolina’s Chang.
