UWF rolls to Gulf South championship
Argonauts rout field to win sixth conference crown in seven years
CALERA, Ala. -- For the sixth time in seven years, West Florida was crowned Gulf South Conference champions. The Argonauts outpaced West Georgia and Christian Brothers to win the trophy at Timberline Golf Club on Tuesday. West Florida freshman Camila Sevillano placed first individually to win medalist honors for the Argonauts.
The Argonauts (333, 324 -- 657) finished the tournament 89-over par, outpacing second-place West Georgia (350, 335 -- 685) by 28 strokes. Christian Brothers (379, 367 -- 746) finished the tournament in third place.
Sevillano’s (80, 78 -- 158) tournament title was the first for an Argonaut since Natalia Espinosa earned medalist honors at the 2010 GSC Championships. The freshman became the fifth Argonaut to place first at the conference tournament, and all five have come in the last six years.
Aimee Paterson placed third overall, finishing the two rounds at 23-over par (83, 82 -- 165). Jenny Lines (82, 85 -- 167) and Agustina Cocha (88, 79 -- 167) tied for fourth place at 25-over. All four Argonauts earned spots on the GSC All-Tournament team for placing in the top five individually.
