No. 25 Michigan State sits in first place
Spartans shoot a 292 in second round, lead No. 22 Ohio State
FRENCH LICK, Ind. -- No. 25 Michigan State shot a 4-over 292 in Saturday's second round at the Big Ten championships to pull in front of No. 22 Ohio State by five strokes heading into Sunday's final round.
Through two rounds, the defending Big Ten Champion Spartans own a team score of 590 (+14), while the Buckeyes are at 595; both teams were tied after Friday's first round with a 298.
The tournament is being held at the par 72, 6,156-yard Donald Ross Course at the French Lick Resort.
Senior Lindsey Solberg led the Spartans on Saturday with a 2-under 70 and jumped into first place on the individual leaderboard by two strokes. Solberg is 1-under for the tournament at 143 (73-70). She had five birdies on the day and recorded a 35 on both the front and back nine.
Junior Caroline Powers carded a 1-over 73 in the second round and is tied for second place, two shots behind Solberg with a 1-over 145 (72-73). Powers tallied two birdies and shot a 36 on the front nine, while collecting one birdie and a 37 in her final nine holes.
Sophomore Allyssa Ferrell improved by six shots in her second round with a 1-over 73, tying Powers for the second-best round of the day on the team. She is tied for 20th overall with a 152 (79-73).
Red-shirt sophomore Liz Nagel is also in the top 20 with her 6-over 150 (74-76), which is tied for 14th.
Christine Meier is tied for 53rd at 161 (85-76), while Jenny Sritragul is tied for 66th at 167 (80-87).
