UIndy wins sixth GLVC championship
Greyhounds rally back from a seven-stroke deficit to win title
WATERLOO, Ill.- Thanks to a program-record-tying team score of 296 in the second and final round, UIndy notched its league-high sixth Great Lakes Valley Conference championship Sunday. The conference tournament was held at the par-72, 5882-yard Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill., Saturday and Sunday.
The Greyhounds erased a seven-stroke deficit after Saturday's round one to take the 2012 GLVC title by five strokes ahead of second-place Drury. The charge was led by a trio of Hounds, as senior Darin Pinnick and sophomores Jenny Konop and Amy Thompson all shot a one-over 73 Sunday.
Pinnick (74-73) finished the 36-hole event at +3 to finish in second behind medalist Katrina Choate (71-72) of Drury. Both were named All-GLVC as top-five finishers. It marked the second consecutive all-conference nod for Pinnick.
UIndy added a couple more individual awards, with Head Coach Brent Nicoson taking GLVC Coach of the Year honors and Jaclyn Schindler garnering GLVC Freshman of the Year accolades.
Konop (79-73) and Thompson (82-73) each finished in the top 10, with Konop sharing seventh and Thompson tying for 10th.
Sophomore Brianna Scheidler (79-77) and freshman Regan Pittard (77-83) also had solid showings, tying for 13th and 16th, respectively, among the 66-golfer field.
