Hawaii Pacific names Utsugi head coach
HONOLULU -- Hawaii Pacific named Jim Utsugi as head coach of the Sea Warriors' women's golf program. Utsugi becomes the second coach in program history.
Utsugi most recently led the varsity golf program at Hawaii Baptist Academy, and he previously guided the junior varsity squad at HBA.
“Jim is a perfect fit for HPU women's golf. He has coaching experience, he is passionate about golf, and he has valuable network connections on Oahu," Hawaii Pacific athletics director Darren Vorderbruegge said. "Most importantly, he is a person of impeccable integrity who cares about young people. We could not have found a better candidate for this position. I am confident our program, which is only in its second year, is poised for tremendous growth under Jim's leadership.”
Utsugi is a graduate of Iolani School. He then attended Loyola Marymount where he earned his degree in business administration. He returned to Hawaii and later achieved his master's in business administration from Chaminade.
"I am extremely excited and honored to be named the head coach for women's golf at HPU." Utsugi said. "I am looking forward to this opportunity to build a solid foundation for the women's golf program."
