St. Edward's jumps out to Day 1 lead at NCAA West Super Regional
MANSFIELD, Texas -- In Monday’s first round action at the NCAA Division II Super Regional Golf tournament at Walnut Creek Country Club, St. Edward’s claimed a four-stroke lead over Tarleton State through the first 18 holes. St. Edward’s Taylor Moreno and Tarleton’s Jessica Pickwick each shot a team-best 74 to pave the way for their respective teams.

Following closely behind the Day 1 performances of Kim, Moreno and Taylor, is a three-way tie for fourth place on the leaderboard. St. Edward’s Alyssa Smith, California Baptist’s Tina Yang and Tarleton State’s Isabell Jimenez Perea, all shot a three-over par 75 on the day.
While St. Edward’s and Tarleton State find themselves in the top two spots on the team leaderboard, California Baptist sits just four strokes out of second place, with a team total of 314 on Day 1. Dallas Baptist also is in the hunt for a spot among the top three teams, which will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Conover, North Carolina.
Through 18 holes, the Lady Patriots are just six shots behind California Baptist for third place.
Cal State-East Bay, West Texas A&M, Hawaii-Hilo and Midwestern State are also well within striking distance of the top three spots after Day 1. Cal State-East Bay carded a 323, while West Texas A&M sits just one stroke behind at 324. Hawaii-Hilo will enter Tuesday’s action in seventh place with a team total of 326. Midwestern State sits just two shots behind Hawaii-Hilo with a 328. Cal State Chico finds themselves in ninth place with a round one total of 337.
Tuesday’s action begins at 9 a.m. ET at Walnut Creek Country Club. The tournament’s top individual player, Colorado State-Pueblo’s Kim, will tee-off with Cal State Monterey Bay’s Audra Kepler, at 9:10 a.m. ET. Headlining the team competition, the trio of St. Edward’s Moreno, Tarleton State’s Pickwick and California Baptist’s Yang, will have the day’s final tee time at 11:40 a.m. ET.
