No. 22 Denver wins tri meet
Martin ties career-high in all-around with 39.500
USAFA, Colo. -- No. 22 Denver women's posted a 196.050 en route to winning Monday evening's tri meet. Western Michigan finished second with a score of 193.450 and Air Force rounded out the scoring with a 193.025.
Highlighting the night was DU's Vault team, which tied the school record with a 49.425 score.
Moriah Martin anchored the Vault corps and won the All-Around title with a career-high 39.500. She also won three event titles.
Simona Castro led the way for the Pioneers in the opening rotation, with a career-high 9.875. Castro won the event. Martin added a 9.850 and Melodie Pulgarin Linero tallied a 9.825. Denver finished with a 49.050 and took a 0.925 lead into the second rotation.
The Pioneers were led on Beam by a pair of 9.850 performances from Martin and Jorie Hall. The win was her first Beam title of the season and a new career-high in the event.
Castro added a 9.800 and Ellese Sakai-Hart turned in her third-consecutive quality performance, leading the Pioneers off in the rotation with a 9.775. Denver combined for a 48.575.
Martin, Hall and Pulgarin Linero delivered for the Pioneers in the third rotation, leading DU to its sixth Floor score of 49.000 or higher this season. Martin led the way for DU, and won the event, with a 9.850, Pulgarin Linero tallied a 9.825 and Hall added a 9.800.
Denver finished with a 49.000 and took a 1.950 lead into the final rotation. DU saved the best for last on Monday evening with a 49.425. Hall led off with a 9.750, Louise Mercer hit a 9.800 routine and Castro delivered a 9.825. Kaitlin Moorhead improved her career-high by .075, tallying a 9.925.
Pulgarin Linero also set a new career-high, matching Moorhead's vault with a 9.925 of her own. Martin anchored the event with a 9.950. Martin claimed her fifth Vault title of the season.
