Arrigoni scores twice as Pipers topple 9 Raiders after long break

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- In a hard-hitting opening period, the Pipers lit the lamp first at 5:01 as Brian Arrigoni (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) scored after a scramble in front of the net. His team-leading sixth goal of the year came on assists from Alex Lundbohm (Sr., Roseau, Minn.) and Ryan Kupperman (Sr., Canterbury, N.H.).
The Raiders evened up the scoreboard eight and a half minutes later as they gained a skater advantage during a delayed penalty.
Carl Linblad (So., Benson, Minn.) flicked the puck in at 13:32 while Devin Schmitt (Fy., Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Todd Krupa (Jr., Stevensville, Ontario) were credited with the assists.
After the Raiders out-shot the Pipers 16-6 in the opening period, the Pipers evened out the attack and held a 10-9 shot advantage in the next 20 minutes.
In the final minute of play in the second period, Hamline’s Jordan Van Gilder (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) gave the hosts a goal advantage heading into the intermission. His goal at 19:17 was assisted by Cory Belisle (Fy., Andover, Minn.) and Jay Fifield (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.).
Arrigoni tallied his second of the game and seventh of the season on an empty-netter at 18:31. Fifield and Chris Berenguer (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) were credited with the assists.
Austun Tavis (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) then made it a 4-1 score with the second empty-netter for the Pipers at 19:24. Kirk Olimb (So., Warroad, Minn.) was credited with the assist.
The Raiders out-shot the Pipers 34-to-30 in the game as Beau Christian (Jr., Warroad, Minn.) tallied 33 saves for Hamline while getting the win in goal.
With the non-conference win, the #12 Pipers are now 7-3-1 overall and the Raiders are 9-2-0 overall. The Pipers take to the road for a pair of non-conference games next weekend, starting at UW-Superior on Friday, January 7. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
