PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team got off to a slow start, but the Cardinals fought back and came out on the winning end, picking up a 7-4 win against Norwich in a rematch of the PrimeLink Shootout championship game.

The Cadets scored two power-play goals early in the first period. Chris Duszynski gave Norwich a 1-0 lead with his fifth of the year at 4:15 from Scott Schroeder and Chad Anderson.

Norwich’s Scott Schroeder took advantage of their second power-play opportunity following a 10-minute game misconduct on Plattsburgh’s Barry Roytman.

Plattsburgh got a much-needed unassisted goal from Eric Satim to cut the Norwich lead to 2-1 with 11 seconds left in the first period.

The Cardinals were able to carry the momentum over to the second period as Daniel Cobb knocked in a shot from Matt Bessing, tying the game at 2-2. Vick Schlueter gave Plattsburgh its first lead of the night on a power-play goal at 10:11 from Ryan Craig and Dylan Clarke.

That lead wouldn’t last long as Blake Forkey tallied his second of the season at 13:58 to tie the game at three apiece.

The Cardinals went up by one on Kyle Taylor’s eighth of the year from Kyle VanDermale and Nick Jensen. Just 29 seconds later, Satim beat Norwich goaltender Alex Dubois on his second goal of the evening.

Jensen and Clarke each added a goal for Plattsburgh in the third period.

Norwich held a slight edge in shots, 31-27. Dubois made 20 stops for the Cadets. Josh Leis recorded 27 saves and improves to 9-1-0.

Tonight marks the eighth straight win for the Cardinals, who improve to 10-4-0. The Cadets fall to 6-4-1.
