DURHAM, N.H. — Junior Kieran Millan made 38 stops and sophomore Ross Gaudet broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period to lead the No. 15 Boston University men’s ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over No. 7 New Hampshire on Saturday evening at the Whittemore Center.
The Terriers improve to 11-7-6 overall and 8-5-4 in Hockey East play while UNH falls to 13-5-4 with an 11-2-2 conference mark.
The BU triumph ended the Wildcats’ 28-game home unbeaten streak (21-0-7) in league play, dating back to a BU win in Durham on Jan. 24, 2009.
All of the game’s scoring came in the second period, as UNH got on the board first with a power-play tally from Greg Burke just five minutes into the stanza. BU responded with a man-up goal of its own from freshman Charlie Coyle at 8:54.
Each team went 1-of-3 on the power play. Matt DiGirolamo recorded 22 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
BU will return to action on Friday (Jan. 28) when it visits No. 10/11 Maine to open a two-game weekend series at Alfond Arena.
