RYE, N.Y. -- Three different Statesmen scored as the Hobart hockey team earned a 3-1 win against No. 11 Manhattanville on Friday in an ECAC West game at the Playland Ice Casino.
The Statesmen improved to 14-8-2 and 4-6-1 in the conference with the win, giving Hobart the right to host the first round game of the ECAC West conference tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 23, against the Valiants. Manhattanville is now 14-9-1 overall and 2-9-0 in the ECAC West.
After a scoreless first period, senior Matthew Wallace took advantage of a power play 15 minutes into the second stanza to score his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Sophomores Brad Richard and Harry Radovich earned the assists.
At 8:29 in the third, Wallace set up the play for Hobart to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Patrick Moriarty put a shot past Manhattanville’s goaltender Pierre Olivier Lemieux for his third tally this season.
With 3:01 left in the final period, the Valiants broke through to cut the deficit to one. Luc VanNatter scored his fifth goal of the year off a pass from Brian Elser. Manhattanville pulled Lemieux with 1:01 remaining for the extra skater to try to get the game-tying goal.
However, with just one second left in the game, junior Gregory Ciciola scored on the empty net for the final. It was his 10th goal this season.
Sophomore Nick Broadwater played all 60 minutes in goal for Hobart and registered 24 saves. Lemieux finished with 25 saves. The Statesmen held a slight 28-25 edge in shots and Hobart went 1 for 7 on the power play, while the Valiants were 0 for 4.
