North Dakota blanks Rensselaer

Fighting Sioux will face winner of Denver vs. Western Michigan

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Fighting Sioux scored four goals in the second period and shut things down on defense, as the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team beat Rensselaer 6-0 in the NCAA Midwest Regional.

UND advances to play in the winner of the Denver/Western Michigan game Sunday afternoon.

Brad Malone got things rolling for UND early in the first period, scoring a goal at 5:25 of the first period. He added one early in the second at 3:58 and the Sioux were off. UND later got goals from Danny Kristo, Jason Gregoire and Corban Knight in the second period. Matt Frattin scored in the third.

The defense, meanwhile, was stout, allowing 21 shots and Aaron Dell stayed in front of all of them to get the shutout. UND outshot RPI 40-21.
