BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont men’s hockey team moved up to seventh in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Poll released today. The No. 7 ranking is the highest for the Catamounts since Jan. 23, 2006 when Vermont was also ranked seventh in the USA Today Poll. The Catamounts were ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation during the 2005-06 season.

Vermont also moved up four spots to eighth in the latest USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Poll. The Catamounts are sixth in the latest Inside College Hockey Power Rankings.

Vermont also ranks third in the latest PairWise Ratings. The PairWise is used by the NCAA to select and seed teams for the NCAA Tournament. According to the KRACH Ratings (Ken’s Ratings For American College Hockey) and the USCHO.com RPI the Catamounts have played the No. 1 strength of schedule in the country. Vermont is 5-3-2 against ranked opponents this season.

No. 7 Vermont (12-4-3, 7-3-2 HEA) visits No. 3 Northeastern (14-4-2, 10-2-1 HEA) on Friday and Saturday at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m. The Huskies won this season’s first meeting 5-3 at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Nov. 14.
