Neumann Defeats Plattsburgh State 5-4 in OT

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (courtesy of neumannathletics.com) - Bill Foster scored the winning goal 2:35 into overtime as the #12 Neumann College men's ice hockey team defeated #1 Plattsburgh State, 5-4, Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship.
Foster and Kyle Casey scored two goals each for the Knights. Casey added an assist. Mike Hedden notched a goal and two assists. Matt Ward dished out two assists. Ross MacKinnon had 25 saves for the Knights.
Phil Farrow and Joey Wilson each scored two goals for the Cardinals. Ryan Corry notched three assists. Bryan Hince had 22 saves for the Cardinals.
Neumann opened the scoring as Hedden scored 7:24 into the game off an assist from Casey. Plattsburgh St. tied the game at one with 14:37 left in the first.
The Cardinals took the lead 8:49 into the second period. The Knights responded as Foster scored an unassisted goal 1:10 later. Joey Wilson scored for the Cardinals as Plattsburgh took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Casey netted the first of his two goals, from Hedden and Ward, 6:55 into the third to tie the game at three. Wilson put the Cardinals up again by one, 4-3, at the 14:12 mark. The line of Casey, Hedden and Ward answered to tie the game at 4-all with 6:38 left to send the game into overtime.
Foster netted his second goal 2:35 into the first overtime period off assists from Erik Stoyanovich and Lincoln-Kaleigh Schrock.
Neumann advances to the Frozen Four at the Herb Brooks Arena Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Knights will face the winner of the Hobart / Amherst quarterfinal contest next Friday, March 20 in the semifinals. The Finals of the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship will take place on Saturday, March 21.
