COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following a berth in the NCAA Division I National Championship game, Miami (Ohio) University will enter the 2009-10 season with the preseason No. 1 ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll. The RedHawks collected 457 points, including four first-place votes, to claim the top spot.

The University of Denver ranks second after accumulating 455 points and the most first-place votes (13). Defending national champion Boston University sits in the No. 3 spot (438), while the University of Michigan (384) and the University of Notre Dame (370) round out the top five.

The 2009-10 regular season begins on Oct. 8 when Quinnipiac University travels to The Ohio State University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute visits the University of Massachusetts.

NOTES: The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll will take a one-week hiatus before returning Oct. 12 ... The Western Collegiate Hockey Association leads all conferences with five ranked teams. The Hockey East Association boasts four ranked programs, with the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and ECAC Hockey each having three ranked teams ... A total of 27 teams received votes.

ABOUT THE POLL: The 15th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
