MINNEAPOLIS - Marc Cheverie (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) recorded his second consecutive shutout and senior Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored two goals in No. 4/5 Denver's 3-0 win over No. 11 Minnesota in WCHA action tonight before 9,786 fans at Mariucci Arena.

Cheverie stopped 30 shots and Tyler Ruegsegger (Lakewood, Colo.) added the game-winning goal and an assist as DU improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the WCHA. Minnesota got 31 saves from junior goaltender Alex Kangas and falls to 0-2-1. Cheverie improved to 3-0 with his sixth career shutout and second consecutive against Minnesota. He stopped 34 shots in his first career shutout against Minnesota on Nov. 22, 2008.

"I'm very pleased with the effort and win tonight," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "Our team put together a really solid effort on the road. Our seniors, led by Rhett Rakhshani and Tyler Ruegsegger, played really well and Marc Cheverie was terrific in net."

After a scoreless opening stanza, Ruegsegger redirected a Matt Donovan (Edmond, Okla.) centering pass to put DU up 1-0 at 3:36 of the second period. Rakhshani's shorthanded goal was waved off at 6:52, but his one-timer from Ruegsegger counted at 11:15.

After Minnesota pulled Kangas late in the game, Rakhshani iced the win with an empty-net goal with two seconds remaining. Donovan chipped in two assists, while Anthony Maiani (Shelby Township, Mich.) and Patrick Wiercioch (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) added one assist each.

DU outshot Minnesota, 34-30, and went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. DU was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.

Notes: DU is 4-1 in its last five meetings against Minnesota and 7-2-1 in its last 10. The Pioneers are 3-for-23 (13%) on the power play and 17-for-19 (89.5%) on the penalty kill. Joe Colborne missed the game with a broken finger. Rakhshani leads DU in scoring with 3-4=7 after his first two-goal game of the season.
