Wisconsin-Eau Claire holds off Adrian
Blugolds overcome early deficit to upset fourth-ranked Bulldogs
ADRIAN, Mich. -- Wisconsin-Eau Claire started out strong on the first day of the Adrian Thanksgiving Tournament as it defeated host No. 4 Adrian 2-1 on Saturday.
Adrian got the game going in the first period when it scored the first goal of the day, a power play goal, at 7:22 after Bryce Wilcox was called for high sticking.
Adrian maintained its lead all the way up until 15:55 when Jon Waggoner found the back of the net on passes from Jared Williams and Devin Mantha. The tying goal came on the power play after three Bulldogs were called for penalties in a four-minute time span.
A little over two minutes into the second period, Blugold defenseman Tyler Romasco got his first goal of the season to pull the Blugolds ahead 2-1. At the same time of the goal, Adrian player Grant Telfer was given a five-minute major for boarding and then was given a 10-minute disqualification.
The Blugolds were able to hold onto its one-goal lead all the way to the end of the game to beat the No. 4 Bulldogs 2-1 and improve their record to 5-4-0.
On the day, the Blugolds outshot the Bulldogs 27-18. Goalie Brandon Stephenson collected 17 saves and improves to 3-3-0.
