MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State-Mankato outshot No. 7 Colorado College, but could not find the decisive goal in a defensive battle. The Tigers took home a 2-1 overtime victory.
After a scoreless first period, Colorado College struck first when Jeff Collett snapped a shot past MSU senior Austin Lee high on the stickside at the 12:51 mark.
Minnesota State came storming back late in the third period when freshman forward Matt Leitner won an offensive-zone face off and scored with a high shot from the right side.
The goal was the sixth of the year for Leitner and forced the game into overtime.
Colorado College’s David Civitarese ended the game with a shot from the slot that found the back of the net 1:28 into the extra session.
Maverick goaltender Austin Lee saved 27 of 29 shots, while Tiger goaltender Josh Thorimbert stopped 37 out of 38 attempts.
MSU’s Jean-Paul Lafontaine extended his scoring streak to five games with the assist on Leitner’s goal (3-3–6). Leitner is now riding a four-game scoring streak (2-2–4).
