BC and Merrimack tie after late goal
Toomey scores just in time to help Warriors earn draw
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Merrimack freshman Connor Toomey tied the score on his second goal of the game with 1:10 left in regulation and sixth-ranked Merrimack finished with a 2-2 tie against fourth-ranked Boston College.
After host Boston College scored the first two goals of the contest, Toomey got the Warriors on the scoreboard at 7:08 of the second period. He netted the equalizer while skating with an extra attacker late in the third period.
After a scoreless first frame, BC senior alternate captain Paul Carey opened the scoring -- his seventh of the season -- 47 seconds into the middle stanza.
Junior forward Steven Whitney doubled the home team’s lead 4:37 later, netting a shorthanded score after he received a nifty feed from senior Barry Almeida and broke in alone on Merrimack senior goaltender Joe Cannata (21 saves).
