Ferris State heads to Frozen Four

GREEN BAY, Wis. —- Jordie Johnston broke a tie with a goal early in the third period and Ferris State held to beat Cornell 2-1 in the Midwest Regional final and advance to the Frozen Four on Saturday night.

Garrett Thompson gave Ferris State a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 11 seconds into the third period and Dustin Mowrey tied it for Cornell 1:21 later.

Johnston scored at 6:54 on assists from Andy Huff and Cory Kane.

The CCHA regular-season champion Ferris State (25-11-5) moves on the Frozen Four to play Union on April 5 in Tampa Bay.

Taylor Nelson made 22 saves for Ferris State. Andy Iles stopped 19 shots for Cornell.
