No. 6 Hobart extends winning streak to 12 with win against Neumann
GENEVA, N.Y. -- Hobart sophomore Brad McBride scored the game-winning goal 1:44 into overtime to secure a 3-2 victory against Neumann for the No. 6 Statesmen. Hobart improved to 10-0-2 and 5-0-2 in conference.
The Knights fell to 4-4-1 overall and 2-4-0 in ECAC West play. The Statesmen stretched their unbeaten streak to 12 games, which is the longest unbeaten streak to start a season in program history.
McBride scored twice for the Statesmen. Sophomore Bronson Kovacs produced a goal and an assist and classmate Terrence O'Neill notched two assists. Senior Nick Broadwater played all 61:44 in goal for the Hobart and stopped 25 shots.
Neumann struck first with 2:42 left in the first period. Andrew Love took a pass from D'Lane Sather and carried the puck down the right side before lifting a shot into the back of the net to put Neumann up 1-0.
Hobart answered with 1:15 left in the opening period. McBride pushed a shot by first-year Bo Webster into the goal, just before he and one of the Knights came crashing in. Senior Ryan Corcoran also earned an assist.
At 14:37 in the second period, Kovacs took advantage of a Statesmen power play to make it 2-1. Kovacs took a pass from O'Neill and blasted his shot into the net from the top of the right circle. It was his third goal of the season. Kovacs also notched the game-winner in last night's victory against Neumann.
The Knights tied things up at two at 6:31 in the third. Dave Gervais took advantage of a 5-on-3 situation for Neumann after a pass from Jordan Zalba, sending the game into overtime.
Just 1:44 into the overtime period, McBride clinched the victory for Hobart. McBride notched his fifth goal of the season, firing a shot from right in front on a fast break. Kovacs and O'Neill earned the assists.
The Statesmen held a 50-27 advantage in shots. Hobart was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Neumann went 1-for-3. Braely Toris played all 61:44 in goal for the Knights and made 47 saves.
