St. Scholastica clinches first shutout of season in win against UW-Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- St. Scholastica kept its kept its win streak against ranked opponents intact, this time defeating No. 4 Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-0 on Friday in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) match-up.
The Saints dominated the first period as Brandon Nowakowski scored the game's first goal just 4:23 into the game. Paul Marcoux and Dylan Nowakowski assisted on the even strength goal. Nowakowski scored his second goal of the game and 14th of the year with less than two minutes left in the period to put CSS up 2-0. D. Nowakowski and Matt Malenstyn assisted on the goal.
Brett Corcoran got in on the scoring action just 90 seconds later to put the Saints up 3-0. Tyler Miller was credited with the assist on Corcoran's even strength goal.
The Saints held off the Blugold attack for the remaining two periods and recorded their first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory.
UW-Eau Claire (18-4-2, 13-3-1 NCHA) was held scoreless for the first time this season despite outshooting the Saints 50-37. CSS goaltender Colin Rundell made a career-best 50 saves. It was his second shutout as a Saint. Brandon Stephenson had 34 saves in the loss for the Blugolds.
CSS now holds a three-game win streak against ranked opponents and has won its last four games.
