RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Ashly Berner scored two goals to help the No. 2 Falcon women’s hockey team extend its winning streak to 12 games with a 3-0 win against No.10 Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.
The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Jamie Briski (Chisholm, MN, Hibbing-Chisholm HS) and Anez (Little Falls, MN, Alexandria HS) assited Ashly Berner (Plymouth, MN, Armstrong HS) second goal of the season 3:49 into the opening period. The Falcons attacked Pointer goaltender Stacie Pomering with 21 shots in the period while only allowing Stevens Point to fire six shots.
Katie Flanagan (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) extended the Falcon lead to 2-0 at 7:05 on the power play. Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) found Kayleigh Bell (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater HS) open in the slot. Bell then dished it to Flanagan who was camping out by the pipes and knocked it in on the power play for her sixth goal of the season.
Berner tallied her second goal of the afternoon 17:00 into the final frame, giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead. Michelle Anez (Little Falls, MN, Alexandria HS) and Briski assited.
The Falcons outshot the Pointers 53 to 29. The Pointers failed to covert on three power-play-attempts while the Falcons knocked in 1 of 6.
Melissa Deardorff (Anchorage, AK, Anchorage North Stars) picks up the shut out win. She stopped all 29 Pointer shots faced for her first shutout of the sesaon.
Up next, the Falcons will travel to St. Norbert for a two-game conference set with the Green Knights. Action is set to get underway at 6 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
