(POTSDAM, NY) The women’s hockey team at SUNY Potsdam will make its home debut on Friday night when they welcome the RIT Tigers for a 7 pm contest. President John F. Schwaller along with pioneers from earlier women’s teams will meet at center-ice for a ceremonial puck drop to mark this special occasion.
While the Bears are returning to home ice as a NCAA varsity team for the first since 1984, they have already accumulated a 2-3-1 season record in road games thus far. Potsdam tied nationally ranked Utica, 1-1, in last Saturday’s conference travel match at Utica.
Scoring leaders for the Bears include Stephanie Malcolm, Breanna Roy and Courtney Laughlin with two goals each.  Brandi Atwell and Nicky Bougie lead the team in assists with three each.
RIT comes to Potsdam with 3-1-1 tally and they were ranked #5 in the current USCHO Division III Poll.  Sarah Dagg leads the Tigers in goals with four and points with seven.  Last year the Tigers went 19-7 while losing to Elmira in the ECAC West semi-finals.
Both teams will return to Maxcy Hall on Saturday afternoon as they meet at 3 pm for a rematch of Friday’s action.
