PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Plattsburgh State continued to pile on the goals, rolling to an 8-0 victory against Chatham in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) action on Sunday afternoon. Four different Cardinals registered multiple points as Plattsburgh improves to 4-0-1 overall and in conference play.
Plattsburgh tallied five goals in the opening period, two in the second period and one in the third. Chelsea VanGlahn led the offense with two goals and two assists for four points on the afternoon. Freshman forward Emma Rutherford had another huge day, netting her first career hat trick to give her seven points this weekend against the Cougars.
Sophomore Jenny Kistner and junior Jordan Caldwell each added a goal and two assists.
Ally Ross got the start in net for Plattsburgh, making eight saves in her first collegiate win. Chatham’s Megan Buchanan suffered the loss after allowing five goals on 18 shots in the first period. Kaitlynn Smith stepped in for the final two periods, recording 37 saves for the Cougars.
Plattsburgh outshot Chatham 24-2 in the second period and finished the day with a 58-8 shot margin. The Cardinals went 1-for-5 on the power play while the Cougars (2-2-2, 0-2-0 ECAC West) went 0-for-2.
