RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Wisconsin-Stevens Point regained sole possession of first place in the Northern Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCHA) on Saturday as it defeated No. 6 Wisconsin-River Falls 5-4.
The Pointers wasted no time getting on the board as Allie Tanzer scored her ninth goal of the season less than two minutes into the game off an assist from Janel Winters.
Leah Gefroh knotted the score at one apiece midway through the first period and then scored again in the second period to give the Falcons the 2-1 advantage.
A total of six goals were scored in a busy third period, four by the Pointers.
Cassandra Salmen recorded two of the Pointers’ third-period goals, Emily Lester and Josie Johnson also added goals for UWSP in the 5-4 win.
Janna Beilke-Skoug recorded 38 saves in net for the Pointers. Gillian McDonald and Ashley Kuechle split time in the net for the Falcons, recording a combined 32 saves.
