COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Attackman Will Yeatman has joined the University of Maryland men’s lacrosse team, head coach Dave Cottle announced today. Yeatman comes to Maryland after spending his first two years at the University of Notre Dame. A native of San Diego, Calif., he has two years of lacrosse eligibility remaining.

“We’re excited to have Will join our program,” said Cottle. “Not only is he a terrific player that will help us on the field, but we know him to be a tremendous person.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity for a new beginning at the University of Maryland,” said Yeatman. “This is a great university and the lacrosse program is one of the best in the nation. I’m looking forward to getting on the field with my new teammates and trying to bring a championship to Maryland. I’m also excited to earn my degree from Maryland, since my mom and a number of other family members are also Terps.”

As a freshman at Notre Dame in 2007, Yeatman earned honorable mention USILA All-America honors after leading the Irish in scoring with 46 points on 21 goals and 25 assists and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He tallied a point in every game and totaled multiple points in 14 of 15 contests. Yeatman was named the LaxPower Rookie of the Year, in addition to being the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) Newcomer of the Year and a first team All-GWLL selection.

Yeatman joins his Terrapin teammates who began spring practice on Wednesday, Jan. 14 in preparation for the 2009 season. Maryland opens its regular season on Feb. 13 against Presbyterian in Jacksonville, Fla.
