No. 17 Colgate Downs Army, 10-9 In OT

HAMILTON, N.Y. (3/29/09) Junior Zack Craumer (Greenwich, Conn.) scored with 1:04 left in the second overtime period as the No. 17-ranked Colgate University men's lacrosse team beat Army 10-9, Sunday afternoon at Andy Kerr Stadium. The win was the Raiders¹ first against Army since 2007.
Craumer received a nice pass from senior Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) and rifled a high shot past Tom Palesky, to keep the Raiders undefeated in league play. After Army won the opening face-off in the second overtime period, the Raiders defense was able to force a turnover and successfully execute a clear with 1:38 remaining.
Colgate (6-3, 3-0) scored two goals in final 42 seconds of regulation to force overtime. Sophomore Rob Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) recorded his second of the game to trim the Black Knights lead to 9-8 with 42 seconds remaining. Sophomore Jim Carroll (Nesconset, N.Y.) successfully won the following face-off with a groundball pick-up from junior Michael Crown (Winnetka, Ill.) to give the Raiders an opportunity. Senior Kevin Colleluori (Bethpage, N.Y.) took a point blank shot with 23 seconds remaining drawing a slashing penalty on Kevin Woodcheke. With the man-up opportunity sophomore Ben McCabe (Brunswick, Maine) was able to find the back of the net with seven seconds remaining to force overtime.
Corp led the Raiders in scoring extending his scoring streak to 42-games with a four point outing off two goals and two assists, while senior Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.) matched him with a goal and three assists, including an assist on the game tying goal.
Army (5-5, 1-2) opened the scoring 3:54 into the first period with a goal from Alex Rhoades. Colleluori was able to tie the game with his 23rd goal of the season midway through the period, before the Black Knights regained the lead 2-1 with 10 seconds remaining.
Army scored again in the second quarter to extend its lead while holding the Raiders scoreless to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Colgate scored twice early in the third quarter to tie the game 3-3. Bosco recorded his first of the game 58 seconds into the second half off an assist from Corp, while Corp tied the game 50 seconds later. The two teams then swapped a pair of goals to finish the period tied 5-5.
Army opened a two-goal lead early in the fourth quarter after goals from Kevin LoRusso and Andrew Maisano. The Raiders trimmed the lead to one off Monastero¹s goal with 9:55 remaining, but the Black Knights responded a minute later to regain a two goal lead. Army held that lead for more than eight minutes before Colgate forced overtime.
Junior Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) tallied 12 stops in goal for Colgate, while Palesky posted 14 saves for the Black Knights.
Colgate travels to Lehigh on Saturday, April 4. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
