Marist names Wilkinson head coach
Top assistant has been with the program the last four seasons
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Keegan Wilkinson was named head coach of the Marist men's lacrosse team on Tuesday by Director of Athletics Tim Murray. Wilkinson had spent the past four seasons as the program's top assistant, helping guide the Red Foxes to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League Tournament each of the last two years.
"I'm excited to give this opportunity to Coach Wilkinson," Murray said. "He's worked extremely hard in his time at Marist, and he's been very loyal. I have great confidence that he will continue the growth of our men's lacrosse program."
During Wilkinson's tenure as an assistant coach, the Red Foxes improved their MAAC record each season. In that time, Marist has posted a record of 16-14 in league play. The Red Foxes have also had 13 First or Second Team All-MAAC selections, 40 MAAC All-Academic Team selections and one MAAC Rookie of the Year in his time. In 2011, Marist had three First Team All-MAAC selections, its highest total in seven years.
"I'd like to thank President [Dr. Dennis] Murray, Tim Murray and the search committee for conducting a great process. The support I've received has been overwhelming," Wilkinson said. "The progress we've seen in the past few years been astounding, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of continuing that progression."
Wilkinson is a 2006 graduate of Saint Joseph's, where he was a four-year starter at attack and a two-year captain. A two-time all-conference selection, he was named the Hawks' Offensive Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006, and was named the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior. He led Saint Joseph's in assists and points three times in his career, and finished his collegiate career with 54 goals and 83 assists. He is ranked second on the school's all-time assists list, and seventh in career points with 137. Wilkinson still holds Saint Joseph's single-game assist record, having recorded seven in a contest against Delaware in 2003.
Wilkinson is a native of Columbia, Md. He attended the famed DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., where he was a four-time WCAC champion in lacrosse.
