No. 5 Rensselear blasts Centenary
Fortuner’s hat trick were his first collegiate goals
JUPITER, Fla. -- Colin Fortuner scored the first three goals of his career to lead a balanced attack and No. 5 Rensselaer defeated Centenary, 13-3. Eleven players had at least one point for the Engineers, who improved to 4-0. The Cyclones fell to 1-3.
Fortuner was one of three RPI players to register a career-first goal. John Nolan and Connor Sullivan were the others.
Rensselaer broke out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and a 5-0 edge in the second before Centenary got on the board.
The Engineers carried a 7-1 lead into halftime and made it a 9-1 game with just a quarter to play. RPI outscored the Cyclones by two (4-2) in the final period for the 10-goal victory.
In addition to Fortuner, others with multiple points for Rensselaer were Andrew Miller (two goals and an assist), Andrew Liptak (two goals), and David Hey (one goal, one assist).
James Manchester earned the win by making four saves on five shots in the first 25 minutes. For Centenary, senior Kyle McVay had 15 saves in three quarters of action.
Offensively for the Cyclones, Conor Nolan had a goal and an assist, while two others had single goals.
