No. 4 Dowling blasts No. 7 C.W. Post
Golden Eagles score 11 first half goals, rout Pioneers
OLD WESTBURY, NY -- Solid defense and a strong 1st half propelled No. 4 Dowling to a huge 14-4 ECC road win against No. 7 CW Post at Hilcox Field. With the win, Dowling improves to 4-0 (4-0 ECC) while CW Post drop to 3-2 (1-2 ECC).
The Golden Lions pulled away early, with the game tied at 2, a man down goal by Billy Richardson sparked the offense as Dowling went on a 10-1 run to take a 10 goal lead early in the 3rd quarter. Richardson and fellow attackman Michael Brennan were terrific, the tandum each scored 3 goals, capitilizing frequently throughout the 1st half, controlling the pace of the game for Dowling. The game winner came late in the 1st as Richardson finished on a feed from Vito Demola.
The midfielders led by Danny Abbene accounting for half of the Dowling offense. Abbene had two goals on his birthday and Brendan Hayes had a goal and two helpers.
For the third consecutive game, Boyle's defense was stingent in the 2nd half, not allowing a goal in the 3rd quarter and a meaningless tally in the 4th with the game way out of reach. Goalie Ryan Doughtery finished with 6 saves and Matt Lauria and Derek Muzio and 4 and 3 groundballs repestively and a caused turnover each.
Dowling also dominated the hustle stats, owning a 37-26 advantage on groundballs.
At the faceoff circle, Lou Riley went 9-18 and scooped up 6 groundballs.
