OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — With 48 seconds remaining in the third period, freshman Luke Miller scored what would become the game-winning goal as No. 7 NYIT went on to defeat No. 9 C.W. Post on Saturday. The Bears earned Northern Boulevard bragging rights with a final 11-6 tally.

With the victory, NYIT improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play. C.W. Post evened to 3-3 overall and dropped to 1-3 in ECC action. Miller finished the game with two goals, scored 30 seconds apart, and three assists. Also scoring multiple goals were Bobby Calhoun, and Ryan Brunet.

Control of the scoreboard wavered back and fourth during the first half before the Pioneers earned a 5-3 halftime lead. NYIT continued to fight and owned the third period, scoring four goals and stopping seven shot attempts. Miller set up Calhoun, who got the ball rolling just 1:45 minutes into the third period. Five and a half minutes later, Tyler Chin knotted the game 5-5 off an assist from Tom Duggan. Six minutes later Miller scored back-to-back unassisted shots to give the Bears the lead and an insurance goal.

NYIT continued its momentum in the fourth period and earned a 10-5 lead with 7:57 to play on an unassisted shot from Calhoun. The Pioneers did capitalize on two penalties dealt to the Bears with a man-up goal at 4:14 but NYIT responded less than two minutes later on an unassisted shot by Duggan. The Bears then held on for the 11-6 win.
